Friend: Shackelford marriage was 'never good' - The Decatur Daily

Minnie Shackelford’s husband, Andreas Shackelford, 41, was arrested by Decatur police Monday and charged with murder in her death. He was being held in Morgan County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bail.A family member found Minnie Shackelford, 44, beaten and strangled to death in her home at 220 Fourth Ave. N.W. early last Thursday, according to Decatur police Lt. John Crouch.“Minnie was an overall loving person,” said Adrianna Tapscott, a family friend. “She was very forgiving and caring. She would give anyone anything they needed.”Tapscott said she is a close friend of Minnie Shackelford’s son, Jerry Rankin. Rankin and Tapscott grew up together in Decatur, and Tapscott said she spent many days with him at Minnie Shackelford’s residence. When asked about Minnie Shackelford’s relationship with husband Andreas Shackelford, her tone changed.“No, it was never good,” Tapscott said of the Shackelfords' marriage. “She knew he wasn’t good for her, but she was so forgiving.”Tapscott said Minnie Shackelford recently wanted to file for divorce, but she opted to “give it another try.” No divorce documents for Minnie Shackelford or Andreas Shackelford were filed.Tapscott said she was never close to Andreas Shackelford, and that Andreas Shackelford was not Rankin’s father.Rankin could not be reached for comment.Pamela Bolding, director of the Neighborhood Christian Center, said Minnie Shackelford used to attend the center’s Tuesday night women’s Bible study, but that she had not regularly attended in the past six months.“She always had positive insight into our studies and was an encouragement to all,” Bolding said in an email.According to police, the couple was married and living together at the time of the killing, but court documents show Andreas Shackelford provided a Hillsboro address to authorities.Andreas Shackelford’s booking report shows he was employed by Wayne Farms in Decatur, but listed his employer as “none” in court documents."Shackelford continually lied about his whereabouts during the investigation and continually misled investigators," Decatur police Dete...
